The u3a, a charity, is a national organisation for people no longer in full-time work.

The Third Age Trust is the charity that is the umbrella body for the more than 1000 u3as across the country. They organise further activities and benefits for members of individual u3as.

Bradford u3a is part of the Yorkshire and Humberside Region (YAHR), and within that the Westnet region (Bradford, Cookridge & Horsforth, Ilkley & District, and Settle u3as). As Bradford u3a is part of this larger organisation members benefit from activities organised nationally, through the Yorkshire and Humberside Region, and by other u3as in Westnet.

All u3as are run by the members. In Bradford u3a more than 20% of the members are involved in and enjoy organising and running activities for the whole membership.
