The purpose of the Communications Team is to handle all the internal communications with members and also external communications and publicity on behalf of our u3a. It is currently chaired by our chair Ros Garside. Internally, the most obvious link with members is through the newsletter. Published monthly by a team of three who rely on contributions from the Committee, trip and event organisers and groups for information to include in the newsletter. Important in both communication and administration of the organisation is the Beacon soft-ware. Beacon was designed and is maintained by u3a members from across the country spe-cifically for the u3a. It includes the full database of member’s details and is used to communi-cate with members digitally by Committee members and group coordinator as well as the newsletter editor. Beacon also handles our finances.
Externally communications are probably less obvious to members. Digitally, the Team admin-isters the Bradford u3a website and two Facebook accounts, one private for our members use only and one open to the public. Hard copy is produced in the form of A5 size leaflets for dis-tribution to public notice boards in libraries, shops etc. and also business cards. Occasional press releases are produced for specific events. Publicity stalls are manned in The Broadway from time to time and also at the Peace and Craft Fair in Victoria Hall and the Bishop Blaise Day at the Industrial Museum.
