This version of cricket, played indoors or outdoors, has been adopted by many u3as across the country and is growing rapidly. It was originally started by Barnsley u3a about 4 years ago. Since then, the sport has been promoted and supported by Yorkshire County Cricket and there are now 18 active teams and groups in Yorkshire many of which are u3a groups. I have visited and played with the Ilkley and the Wakefield groups and talked to their players. It is clearly a very sociable and fun way of keeping active and burning a few calories. It is a version of the game that is ideally suited for older players who are less mobile than they used to be. We use lighter bats, a softer ball and shorter pitches. Teams are mixed male and female, and it is not necessary to have played cricket before. If you think you may be interested and want more information please contact, Terry Wassall.
