At our meeting in June we talked about The Dutch House by Ann Patchett which the group had enjoyed. Using a list of book group questions, we had a lively discussion about the characters, particularly siblings, Maeve and Danny, and how their relationship evolved over time, the significance of the house itself and how the story being told in the first person shaped our understanding of the book.
To join this friendly, lively group you just need an interest in reading a variety of books. The aim is to try different authors and to think a bit more deeply than we would if we were reading alone. We use packs of books provided by the library reading service, mainly modern novels, and each year we are sent a list of available books and we then draw up a list of books we would like to read during the coming year.
We have space for new members who will be made very welcome.
Meeting on the first Monday of the month; 2.00 p.m.
At the meeting we have a relaxed, informal discussion about the book using a list of questions with people joining in as they wish.
No refreshments are provided at the library. We have decided to divide up the room hire charge of £11 between those who attend the meeing. Those who don't attend don't pay.
